Afghan Telecom (AfTel), a state-owned company founded in 2005, provides telecommunications services in Afghanistan. Employing approximately 2,000 people across 34 provincial capitals and 254 districts and villages, AfTel offers a range of services including traditional fixed-line telephony and internet access in major urban areas, as well as 3G GSM wireless telephony, WiMAX, and fiber-based internet services utilizing switching, wireless access, and satellite technologies.
