Founded in 1958 as a non-profit organization, Ailey is headquartered in the US and employs approximately 360 people. It comprises five distinct entities: the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II (a training company), The Ailey School, Ailey Extension (offering community dance classes), and Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs.
