American Athletic Conference is a privately owned entity headquartered in the United States, founded in 1979 and employing approximately 70 individuals, focused on spectator sports. The conference, a member of the NCAA, was reconstituted in 2013 with its conference office located in Irving, Texas. It is comprised of institutions including UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy (in football only), North Texas, Rice, South Florida, SMU, Temple, UTSA, Tulane, Tulsa, and Wichita State (for basketball and Olympic sports).
The American Athletic Conference announced a three-year partnership with Riley Decker Companies, naming the staffing and workforce solutions provider an Official Partner through June 30, 2029, on August 19, 2026. Earlier, on August 6, the conference released its men's basketball league schedule pairings for the 2026-27 season, indicating that every team will play 18 conference games. Concurrently, ESPN Events, in collaboration with the Atlantic 10 Conference and the American Conference, unveiled the A10/American Showcase, a new multi-year men's college basketball event scheduled to debut on November 29, 2026. Also on August 6, three American Conference players earned spots on the 2026 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Preseason Watch List, while four players were named to the 2026 Rimington Award Preseason Watch List, which recognizes the top center in college football.
