American Athletic Conference is a privately owned entity headquartered in the United States, founded in 1979 and employing approximately 70 individuals, focused on spectator sports. The conference, a member of the NCAA, was reconstituted in 2013 with its conference office located in Irving, Texas. It is comprised of institutions including UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, Navy (in football only), North Texas, Rice, South Florida, SMU, Temple, UTSA, Tulane, Tulsa, and Wichita State (for basketball and Olympic sports).
On October 1, 2026, the American Athletic Conference adjusted the kickoff time for the Memphis at Charlotte football game to 11 a.m. ET due to expected inclement weather; the game will still broadcast on ESPN+. Previously, on September 30, 2026, the conference announced its men’s basketball conference schedule for the 2026-27 season, detailing that each team will play 18 league games, facing six conference opponents twice and the other six once. Earlier, on September 28, 2026, the American Conference released selected times and television designations for Week 6 games, scheduled from October 8-10. On the same day, the conference also named its Week 4 football Players of the Week, with Tulane's R-Sr. RB Maurice Turner receiving Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against Southern Miss, which included touchdown runs of 43 and 74 yards.
