News Summary:

On February 15, 2026, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), an entity linked to the Ministry of Communications, launched a bidding notice for mobile telephony in the 700 MHz band. This spectrum part will be utilized to expand mobile phone and internet signals across Brazil, with the goal of connecting 800,000 people and 6,500 kilometers of roads. Previously, from January 19, telecommunication companies gained authorization to remove over 38,000 public payphones from streets. This change follows the migration of old concession contracts for fixed telephone services to a private regime, marking another step towards the extinction of public phones nationwide.
