Anglian Water Services faced criticism on October 2, when Green Party deputy leader Rachel Millward stated that water companies, regulators, and the government are not moving quickly enough to build new drinking water reservoirs, citing a "woeful lack of investment in essential infrastructure" and linking it to "privatisation." Previously, on October 1, broader discussions highlighted England’s water system reaching a "decisive point" due to fragmented regulation, ageing assets, and rising environmental pressures, with a "New Vision for Water" aiming for a necessary reset. Earlier, on September 30, Anglian Water revealed further details on its proposals for two desalination plants in Norfolk and Lincolnshire, aiming to secure regional water supplies, following a £29 million contract awarded in January to TYPSA-Stantec to develop these plans. On the same day, Anglian Water Services Ltd issued a tender notice for a Ground Investigation (GI) Framework with five lots under the Procurement Act 2023. This follows news from September 29 that CEOs of polluting water companies, who have faced scrutiny for large bonuses despite a ban, will be subject to new clampdowns on "loopholes" regarding their bonus payments.
