The Arizona Coyotes are a privately owned professional ice hockey team founded in 1996. Headquartered in the United States, specifically in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the Coyotes employ approximately 300 people. Their primary business is spectator sports, and they compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference within the National Hockey League (NHL).
In March 2023, the Arizona Coyotes traded defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Ottawa Senators. The Ottawa Senators later traded Chychrun to the Washington Capitals in July 2024, receiving a 2026 third-round draft pick and defenseman Nick Jensen in return. The Arizona Coyotes left Arizona in 2024. Phoenix city leaders approved a development agreement on August 27, allowing Mortenson Co. to develop commercial office space on 217 acres of land the Coyotes previously sought. The departure of the Coyotes in 2024 prompted prioritization of a new deal to retain the Arizona Diamondbacks, whose lease with Maricopa County expires in 2027.
