Privately owned Astera, headquartered in Germany, was founded in 2007 and employs approximately 40 individuals. The company operates as a hardware, software, and manufacturing entity primarily serving entertainment providers, specializing in the production of battery-powered, remote-controlled LED lights.
On June 16, 2026, cinematographer James Whitaker ASC utilized Astera-powered light for the darkly comedic HBO series "DTF St. Louis," reuniting with long-time collaborator Steve Conrad. Previously, on June 9, 2026, Astera introduced the QuikBeam, a new static, battery-powered IP65 LED fixture. Designed with a Fresnel lens, the QuikBeam emulates a 200W tungsten light and integrates into the Astera Ecosystem. Earlier, on May 20, 2026, cinematographer Ashley Barron ACS used Astera products to light Netflix’s “How to Get to Heaven from Belfast,” aiming to engineer a vivid sense of unease for the production.
