Five Augustana University students received Covenant Awards on Thursday, April 30, for exemplifying the institution's core values of Christian liberal arts, excellence, community, and service. Previously, on Monday, April 27, the university announced an agreement to extend President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin’s term until at least 2032, adding three years to her presidency which was set to expire in 2029. Earlier, on April 15, Augustana students collaborated on a craft brewing project, creating a special-release maple cream ale to honor the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum's namesake, which was tapped at Big Lost Meadery & Brewery and featured at the arboretum’s 20th anniversary celebration on April 24. On April 9, Maya Madson ‘27 and Ayden Calvert ‘27 were selected to participate in the 2026 Peace Scholars Program, marking its return after a five-year hiatus and aiming to engage students in global peacemaking efforts. This followed the announcement on April 6 that Augustana University student Adam Brachman ‘28 received the 2026 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program Award, providing an opportunity to study cultures and languages vital to U.S. global engagement.
