BBFC, also known as the British Board of Film Classification, is a state-owned entity headquartered in the UK. Founded in 1912, with approximately 50 employees, the agency is responsible for age ratings on films and other video content within the UK.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) announced on June 15, 2026, that eight-year-old Tommy from Blackpool won its "Create the Card Competition," a collaboration with Disney and Pixar for *Toy Story 5*. Tommy's winning design for the official BBFC Black Card will appear before every UK screening of the film. Previously, on May 25, 2026, a BBFC survey indicated that over eight in 10 parents support applying cinema-style age ratings to social media content. The poll, which surveyed 2,000 parents of children aged 12 to 17, found that over half considered harmful or inappropriate content their top concern regarding their child's well-being. Earlier, on April 27, 2026, the BBFC launched its largest-ever Youth Panel, expanding to 44 members with new strands for children and teens aged 7 to 15. The panel now spans ages 7 to 21 and includes members from all four UK nations to ensure diverse perspectives.
