A March 2025 Heavy Reading survey of 241 communications service providers indicated strong interest in coherent routing and 800G adoption, with most planning to deploy coherent pluggables in routers and DWDM systems, favoring routers. DFA South Africa and Ciena, with deployment by Ciena partner Willcom, achieved a breakthrough in fiber capacity, exceeding previous trials by more than four times. Segra is constructing a new fiber route in the Carolinas, connecting Charlotte, NC, to the Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station via Florence, SC, utilizing Ciena's optical equipment.
