BP is a Publicly Owned company headquartered in the UK. Known legally as BP p.l.c. and formerly The British Petroleum Company p.l.c. and BP Amoco p.l.c., it operates as a British multinational oil and gas company. Founded in 1909, the company has approximately 63,800 employees and reported $180.4M in revenue as of 2020. It specializes in oil and gas, and is considered one of the oil and gas "supermajors" and among the world's largest companies by revenues and profits.
On May 2, 2026, Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced a new natural gas discovery in the Nile Delta, projecting a production capacity of 50 million cubic feet per day. This discovery, from the exploratory well (Nidoco N-2) in the West Abu Madi area, resulted from co-operation between BP and Italy’s Eni. Earlier the same day, Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, expressed concern over reports that BP is considering an exit from the North Sea. Bloomberg reported that the company initiated an internal review of its North Sea operations, though no final decision had been made, with Swinney attributing the potential move to the UK Government's windfall tax on oil and gas.
