Bundesnetzagentur, also known as BNetzA, is a State Owned entity based in Germany. Founded in 1998, the organization functions as the German regulatory office for electricity, gas, telecommunications, post, and railway markets.
Bundesnetzagentur published the results of its May 1, 2026 auctions for onshore wind and innovation projects on June 26, 2026, awarding 2495 MW of onshore wind capacity in an oversubscribed tender that attracted 628 bids totaling 6409 MW. Previously on June 15, the agency urged Germany’s four electricity transmission network operators to accelerate network upgrades, advising against relying on short-term fixes and warning that their proposals could lead to an undersized grid and a potential EU order to split Germany into multiple electricity pricing areas. Also on June 15, the Higher Administrative Court of North Rhine-Westphalia issued a preliminary stay against the agency in a dispute regarding mobile data "heavy users," after the regulator had prohibited a nationwide provider from deprioritizing customers with unlimited or very large data volumes in congested cell sites. This followed the agency's launch of a consultation on June 12 for a second draft of the network development plan (NDP), outlining 118 eligible measures for electricity grid expansion up to 2037 and 2045, from the 159 proposed by grid operators.
