Calian Group and Invest Ottawa announced the Northstar Defence Lab on October 1, 2026, establishing a facility at the Area X.O research complex in Ottawa. This lab will allow Canadian companies to integrate and test their defence technologies as a single system, marking the first in Calian’s planned national network. Earlier on the same day, Trace3 completed its acquisition of Calian Group’s U.S. Commercial IT assets, expanding Trace3’s national IT services footprint with additional engineering talent, managed services infrastructure, and localized delivery capabilities. This transaction integrates Calian’s U.S. Commercial IT team and client relationships into Trace3, adding operational capacity in Texas and Minnesota. Calian completed the sale of its U.S. commercial IT business, based in Houston, Texas, to Trace3 for CAD $43 million.
