Privately owned Catalonia Radio, headquartered in Spain, was founded in 1983 and employs approximately 410 individuals. The company specializes in broadcast media production and distribution, operating as Catalunya Ràdio SRG, SA with the objective of promoting and disseminating the Catalan language and culture. Over the years, it has evolved into a group of broadcasters encompassing four channels: Catalunya Ràdio, a conventional channel; Catalunya Information, a service offering 24 hours of uninterrupted news; Catalunya Música, dedicated to classical and contemporary music; and iCat fm, a channel that replaced Catalunya Cultura. These operations collectively produce over 35,000 hours of broadcasting annually across its four channels.
Catalonia's public service media organization, 3Cat, became an Ancillary Member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on June 25, 2026, elected at the EBU's 96th General Assembly in Prague. Broadcasting in Catalan to more than eight million people, 3Cat previously produced an audiovisual event on June 10, 2026, covering Pope Leo XIV’s visit to the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. This production utilized approximately twenty Sony Cinema Line cameras, including VENICE 2, ILME-FR7, and ILME-FX6, for HDR capture. Earlier, on April 22, 2026, the HbbTV Association announced 3Cat as a co-host for its 14th HbbTV Symposium and Awards, scheduled for November 18-19, 2026, at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza, serving as a key gathering for the connected TV industry to discuss the evolution of open standards.
