Clackamas County, a state-owned entity headquartered in the US, was founded in 1843 and operates with approximately 1,400 employees. Functioning primarily in government administration, the county is located within the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.
On January 27, the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners indicated its preference to refer a public safety levy to voters, which would increase costs by $86 annually for the average homeowner. This proposed measure aims to allow the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office to maintain current services and create a specialized crime reduction team. Previously, on January 20, the county awarded $650,000 in competitive grant funding to 12 local traded-sector businesses through its Business Development Grant Program. These grants, financed by state lottery dollars, support capital and workforce development projects intended to foster local economic growth, with each recipient matching the funds received. Earlier, on January 11, Clackamas County advanced the full vision of its Recovery Campus project, incorporating transitional housing. This move followed Governor Tina Kotek’s executive order, which extended the state’s Homeless Emergency and allocated funds to the county. The Recovery Campus is a key component of the county’s strategic plan to address homelessness, mental health, and substance use disorders, with its completion and operations targeted for 2027.
