On March 27, Clarivate Plc, a data-intelligence firm, announced its new AI50 ranking, identifying fifty entities for their disproportionate share of high-strength artificial intelligence inventions, as measured by Clarivate’s proprietary Derwent Strength Index. This ranking follows the company's March 26 announcement of the Clarivate AI50 itself, which serves as a new data-driven benchmark for organizations demonstrating leadership in high-impact AI inventions. Earlier on March 26, Clarivate released a report, in collaboration with the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), highlighting the critical need for structured data in research intelligence. The report cautioned that poorly structured or inconsistent data could compromise benchmarking and policy decisions amidst the growing volume and complexity of scholarly records. This report built upon an ISI report published on March 25, which detailed how Clarivate's rigorous data curation, taxonomy, and metadata standards enhance search, discovery, and analytics, while also emphasizing the potential negative consequences of neglecting robust data structure and categorization.
