Nearly half of UK landline users remain unaware of the analogue phone switch-off deadline, set for January 2027, as the UK’s traditional phone network transitions to digital technology, requiring households to move to internet-based calls. This follows an urgent call on August 26 for landline users to take action regarding the impending switch-off. Earlier that day, a survey by Community Fibre, which polled 2,000 UK residents, revealed that 45% of those yet to migrate from the public switched telephone network (PSTN) lacked confidence in making the change. Within this group, 47% reported not seeing enough information about the switchover, and 33% expressed confusion about the necessary adjustments and their implications. Community Fibre had previously explained that the PSTN switch-off signifies the UK's nationwide migration from analogue landline phone services to digital services delivered over broadband, with the PSTN network scheduled for retirement by January 31, 2027.
