Crohn's and Colitis Canada, also known as Crohn et Colite Canada, is a privately owned organization headquartered in Canada. Founded in 1974, it operates with approximately 120 employees. The organization functions as a national volunteer-based charity dedicated to finding cures for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and to improving the lives of children and adults affected by these chronic conditions.
On May 1, 2026, Katryna Loewen, an Altona resident, was named the Honourary Chair of the 2026 Manitoba Gutsy Walk, sharing her personal journey with ulcerative colitis and a total colectomy in support of Crohn's and Colitis Canada. Earlier, on April 30, the organization hosted a virtual peer support event for young adults aged 18-30 living with Crohn’s or colitis. Also on April 30, it honored Dr. David Schaeffer on National Physicians’ Day, acknowledging the quiet fears faced by patients awaiting results and navigating their health. Previously, on April 28, Karen Bairan RN, the 2025 IBD Nurse of the Year, was recognized during National Nursing Week for her role in providing a steady presence and reassurance to patients. This followed the announcement on April 22 of the 17th annual Gutsy & Glamorous Gala, scheduled for fall in Winnipeg, which aims to raise vital funds for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research and programs dedicated to finding cures for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
