News Summary:

On June 22, 2026, researchers found that the recently discovered AryStinger botnet quietly hijacked thousands of end-of-life D-Link routers and some network-attached storage (NAS) devices, converting them into a distributed scanning and proxy network for attackers. D-Link also received inclusion in Newsweek’s America’s Greatest Workplaces in Tech 2026 ranking on June 22. Earlier on the same day, cybersecurity researchers at QiAnXin XLab had warned about this ongoing AryStinger campaign, noting it targets outdated and unsupported routers, primarily D-Link and Linksys models powered by Realtek's RTL819X chips, popular between 2012 and 2015. On June 21, Qianxin's XLab threat intelligence team reported the AryStinger botnet had compromised over 4,000 outdated routers worldwide, converting them into remotely controlled "executors" for malicious traffic. Previously, on June 17, D-Link announced it is accelerating its transformation from a networking equipment brand into a broader AI and connectivity company, with CEO CJ Chang projecting 2026 as the company's "rebirth" and targeting 100,000-unit shipments of AI therapy robots in 2027.
