On February 20, 2026, a Turkish court rejected an appeal against the arrest warrant and pre-trial detention of DW investigative journalist Alican Uludağ, citing a flight risk. Uludağ, who has 18 years of experience and no prior convictions, described the proceedings as politically motivated and a "purge against critical voices," maintaining his posts on X are protected under freedom of expression. Previously, on February 19, Uludağ, a well-known investigative journalist in Turkey, was detained by approximately thirty police officers in front of his family. He was scheduled to appear before a magistrate the following day.
