ETH Zurich, a privately owned entity headquartered in Switzerland, was established in 1855 with approximately 10,740 employees. The institution functions as a science and technology university.
ETH Zurich researchers developed a new hydrogel to combat resistant bacteria in wounds and around implant sites, which also supports healing, as announced on February 22, 2026. The gel, inspired by natural immune defenses, has shown promising results in animal models, addressing the issue of bacterial infections responsible for roughly 7.7 million deaths annually, a problem exacerbated by rising antibiotic resistance. Previously, on February 20, ETH Zurich announced it would host a launch event on February 24 for "Home for Humanity," a new web platform. This platform converts decades of disaster shelter research into publicly accessible step-by-step construction guides, developed in collaboration with ETH Zurich's Chair of Architectural Behaviorology, the Chair of the Theory of Architecture, and the nonprofit Fashion Girls for Humanity.
