Bloomberg journalist Paul Sloan reported on October 1, 2026, that approximately 60 companies, including Amazon, were targeted by Fender's cease-and-desist campaign. Sloan, who interviewed Fender's CEO for his story, indicated that small S-style guitar manufacturers should not yet feel relief despite an apparent shift in priorities for the Stratocaster maker, as clarity on acceptable designs remains elusive. Previously, on September 27, CEO Edward "Bud" Cole defined the Stratocaster as "the sum of several parts," which Fender aims to protect as Leo Fender's intellectual property. This explanation came amid significant scrutiny from the guitar community regarding the company's legal campaign against S-style manufacturers, which began in May 2026 and notably targeted "Silver Sky" maker PRS. Earlier, on September 25, Cole addressed mounting customer complaints about quality control, outlining steps the company is taking to resolve these issues and acknowledging that Fender "heard it loud and clear." On September 24, Fender announced its new Silent System, which it claims eliminates single-coil hum, an issue that some players felt was not fully resolved by its existing Noiseless pickups without sacrificing dynamic chime.
