Georgian Rugby Union is a state-owned organization headquartered in Georgia. Founded in 1962, it employs approximately 70 individuals and reported $23.2M in revenue as of 2023. Its main product is spectator sports. The organization functions as the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the nation of Georgia.
On May 13, 2026, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) suspended six Georgian rugby players and a former chief doctor from competition after a joint investigation by WADA and World Rugby confirmed that these individuals violated anti-doping rules. Previously, on May 11, a column published by Alex Bywater detailed the author's feeling of being "duped" by the team's "underdog story," referencing their first win against Six Nations opposition, Italy, on July 10, 2022, and another victory in Cardiff four months later. This followed an earlier confirmation on March 23, 2026, by WADA and World Rugby of anti-doping rule violations by the national team, which had drawn Georgian rugby into a doping scandal ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
