Telia Norway stops over 8 mln scam calls to mobile lines in Q1

Telia Norway said it prevented 8.4 million fraudulent calls from reaching Norwegian mobile customers in the first three months of 2026. It estimates that this may have averted losses of around NOK 250 million. Telia added that there has been an increase in targeted fraud attempts via SMS. This is called "spearfishing" and is a type of phishing attack aimed at specific people or businesses, aiming to steal sensitive information or install malware.

Telia Norway upgrades Svindelsperre scam blocker

Telia Norway said it has upgraded the Svindelsperre service that it brought in last year to block fraudulent calls. The upgrade started operating three weeks ago and automatically blocks international telephone calls from invalid numbers that do not follow the usual numbering standard. It claims to be the first operator in the world to bring in this function.

Norway: Nkom announces inspection of Telia following data breach

On February 25, 2026, the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) announced that it will be conducting an inspection on Telia Norge AS following reports of an extensive data breach. The operator said a great deal of information has been extracted, including communication data from Telia customers. Telia claims Norway first with nationwide commercial 5G SA launch

Telia Norge said it has become the first operator in Norway to launch commercial 5G standalone (SA) services nationwide, following a series of trials and pilot deployments over the past three years. The operator, which completed its nationwide 5G rollout in 2024, is now offering 5G SA to business customers across its entire mobile network under the name “Avansert 5G”.

Telia Norway and Ice agree to combine RANs

Telia Norway and Lyse, the Norwegian energy and telecom group that owns the mobile operator Ice, have agreed to combine their mobile radio access networks (RANs) in a 50-50 joint venture. They point to competitive and cost advantages as well as benefits for the new emergency network, preparations for increasingly extreme weather and for national resilience. The RAN joint venture, set to start operations in Q2, should lead to "substantial" improvements in mobile coverage as early as 2027, the companies said.
