BuzzFeed announced on July 28, 2026, the layoff of approximately 180 employees, representing about 33 to 35 percent of its workforce, across its various properties including HuffPost, Tasty, and its film and TV studio. This move, which some sources attribute to a "bizarre pivot to AI" and an effort to stem millions in annual losses, marks the first major restructuring since Byron Allen took majority control of the company. Earlier, on July 13, Bill Maher told Allen, who acquired BuzzFeed and already owned HuffPost, that the publications were "peak woke" and staffed by "snarky millennial nepo babies" during Maher's "Club Random" podcast.
