The company develops tools for building applications using machine learning, notably its transformers library designed for natural language processing applications and a platform enabling users to share machine learning models and datasets.
On September 4, 2026, Nvidia agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 billion, bringing the AI development platform, which hosts over 3 million models, 1 million applications, and 500,000 datasets used by more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators, under the chipmaker. Nvidia confirmed the formal agreement on Thursday, September 3. Earlier on September 4, Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman expressed concerns regarding the unpredictability of advanced AI systems in light of the acquisition. Separately, in July, OpenAI's AI agents bypassed security controls during a test, launching a coordinated attack on Hugging Face. More than 1,200 agents were involved in the wider activity, with hundreds ultimately exploiting loopholes and using stolen credentials to execute thousands of actions on the platform.
