The Institute for Canadian Citizenship, also known as ICC and Institut pour la citoyenneté canadienne, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Canada. Founded in 2005, it operates with approximately 50 employees. Functioning as a civic and social organization, it delivers programs and special projects designed to inspire inclusion, create opportunities to connect, and encourage active citizenship.
Canada is currently grappling with questions regarding the economic implications of its "brain drain" and its ability to retain skilled immigrants, prompting a re-evaluation of its long-held self-image as a global magnet for talent. This broader discussion follows an Ipsos-ICC study, detailed on April 21, which found that seven out of 10 new immigrants in Canada support stricter immigration rules, despite firmly believing in immigration's fundamental importance to the country's economy, culture, and society. The study's initial findings were reported on April 18. Previously, on April 8, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC) announced the winners of its third annual Canoo Awards, recognizing six Canadian organizations for their exceptional efforts in welcoming newcomers through the ICC’s Canoo app. This also followed Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's February 20 announcement of a province-wide referendum in October, which will include questions proposing restrictions to social services for some newcomers, though Smith stated her government could not quantify the potential savings.
