The Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE), founded in 1986, is Virginia’s affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). On August 26, 2025, SmartLab’s learning environment and curriculum received the ISTE Seal of Alignment. Jessica Garner, senior director of innovative learning at ISTE, stated that artificial intelligence tools can improve project-based learning with proper guidelines and accountability frameworks. More than 17,200 participants attended the co-located ISTELive and ASCD Annual Conference in San Antonio and online from June 29 to July 2.
