Internet and Mobile Association of India, also known as IAMAI, is a privately owned entity headquartered in India. Founded in 2004, the organization operates as a non-profit, with an estimated employee count of 140. It functions as an industry association dedicated to advancing and representing the interests of the internet and mobile ecosystem within India.
The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), an industry grouping with members such as Google, Meta, and Microsoft, stated on April 2, 2026, that a recent National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) notice, which alleged non-compliance with children's data privacy rules by AI platforms, amounts to "significant legal and jurisdictional" overreach. This followed IAMAI's caution to the government on March 31, 2026, against rushing regulations, arguing that hasty decisions could make it harder for companies to comply and slow innovation in India's digital space. The group also challenged the NHRC notice by citing that children's data rules are scheduled for May 2027 and criticized a supporting report for not consulting tech firms. Earlier, on December 3, 2025, IAMAI highlighted its India Digital Summit (IDS) as its flagship annual conference and India’s largest platform for the digital ecosystem. Previously, on August 7, 2025, IAMAI requested the Centre to remove legal barriers for using publicly available personal data to train or fine-tune AI models, pointing out the impracticality for AI companies to verify if all such data was voluntarily provided by users.
