News Summary:

New Mexico PBS (NMPBS/KNME-TV) announced on February 18, 2026, the appointment of Phil Hoffman as its new CEO and general manager, effective April 1. Hoffman, who previously served as assistant dean of media and general manager for Ball State PBS and Indiana Public Radio, assumes leadership following a national search and the retirement of longtime general manager and CEO Franz Joachim. He will also inherit a budget landscape stabilized by state intervention. Previously, on November 19, 2025, the FCC issued a notice of proposed rulemaking for ATSC 3.0, also known as Next Gen TV, indicating that public broadcasters would not be mandated to adopt the new standard in the near future. The commission seeks to strip away regulations that could hinder support for ATSC 3.0 but has not set cutoff dates for the existing ATSC 1.0 standard or mandated ATSC 3.0 tuner support in televisions.
