KNX Association, also known as KNX, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Belgium. Founded in 1990, the organization has approximately 230 employees. It functions as the governing body that owns the KNX trademark and is responsible for developing the ETS software, ensuring that devices from over 500 different manufacturers are 100% compatible with KNX. KNX operates as an open international standard (ISO/IEC 14543-3) for home and building automation, enabling interoperability of products. The system utilizes a unified software tool, ETS6, to plan, design, and commission devices across a single bus network for applications such as lighting control, HVAC, security, and energy management. For professionals, KNX Association provides a certification framework, a standardized communication protocol that includes KNX IoT and KNX Secure, and a technical toolkit to integrate thousands of certified products into a secure, vendor-independent building control system.
