KWBU 103.3 FM We Tell Stories. Waco's NPR is a privately owned company headquartered in the US, founded in 1978 and employing approximately 20 individuals. The company specializes in Broadcast Media Production and Distribution.
KWBU's new president, Lydia Tate, discussed a federal judge's March 31, 2026, block of President Trump's order to stop NPR funding, a ruling the White House indicated it will appeal. This development followed a federal judge's April 2026 finding that the Trump Administration’s blocking of federal funds for PBS and NPR was unconstitutional. The judge noted that the potential damage to public broadcasting, stemming from an executive order President Trump signed in May 2025 to end funding citing "biased media," might be irreversible. Previously, on January 5, 2026, Joe Riley concluded his 16-year tenure as KWBU public radio Director, retiring after spending the preceding year securing community support for the station following a loss of half its budget due to funding cuts from Baylor University and the federal government. Earlier, in November 2025, KWBU celebrated 25 years of public radio with a special rebroadcast.
