La Babosa Cine

La Babosa Cine, a privately owned company headquartered in Paraguay, was founded in 2015 by film director and screenwriter Marcelo Martinessi alongside producer Sebastián Peña Escobar. Operating with approximately 10 employees, the company specializes in entertainment content rights. This independent cinematic production company, based in Asunción, Paraguay, takes its name from Gabriel Casaccia's 1952 Paraguayan novel La Babosa. From its headquarters on Defensa Nacional in Asunción, the boutique production house focuses on high-concept arthouse cinema, challenging social realism, and strategic international co-productions. It produced Las Herederas (2018), which won two Silver Bears at the Berlin International Film Festival.
