Lamar University (LU), a public university founded in 1923 and located in Beaumont, Texas, is part of the Texas State University System since 1995. Previously the flagship institution of the Lamar University System, it currently serves approximately 17,850 students (Fall 2024 enrollment). The state-owned university employs 2,970 people and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is named after Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas.
