Los Angeles Unified School District, also known as LAUSD, is a state-owned entity headquartered in the US. Founded in 1853, the district employs approximately 45,120 individuals and operates as the second-largest public school system in the United States. Serving over 520,000 students across 710 square miles that encompass the city of Los Angeles and 25 surrounding municipalities, the district operates under its "Ready for the World" 2022–2026 Strategic Plan. It provides an infrastructure of educational and social services, including Magnet programs and Dual Language Education, a dedicated School Police Department, and student transportation fleets.
