Lucasfilm, a privately owned company and subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, is headquartered in the US. Founded in 1971 by filmmaker George Lucas, the company functions as an entertainment provider, employing approximately 4310 people. The studio is known for its film and television production, recognized for creating and producing the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, and for its significant contributions to developing special effects, sound, and computer animation for films. It also operates through its subsidiaries, Skywalker Sound and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM).
Lucasfilm's *Andor* showrunner Tony Gilroy on February 21 addressed persistent rumors that newly appointed studio co-president Dave Filoni disliked the critically acclaimed series, and also discussed Disney's reported reluctance for him to delve into themes of fascism. This follows a significant transitional period for Lucasfilm, with Dave Filoni, a protégé of George Lucas, and Lynwen Brennan replacing Kathleen Kennedy as studio co-presidents, a leadership change that has prompted concern among some fans regarding the future direction and project approvals for the *Star Wars* franchise. Earlier, on February 20, a surprise *Andor* sequel, set before the events of *Rogue One: A Star Wars Story*, was announced. This development aligns with broader reports that *Rogue One*, which redefined *Star Wars* mythology in 2016 by detailing the theft of Death Star plans, would receive new prequels following *Andor*'s successful two-season run which concluded in 2025. Previously, on February 19, Gilroy publicly dismissed the Filoni rumor, stating his relationship with Filoni was "nothing but cordial and pleasant" after TheWrap cited an unnamed source claiming Filoni disliked *Andor*, a claim a Lucasfilm spokesperson also denied as inaccurate.
