Magnolia Pictures announced on Friday the acquisition of US rights to "The Carpenter's Son," a film directed by Lotfy Nathan starring Nicolas Cage, FKA twigs, and Noah Jupe. The film, currently in post-production, is described as a horror movie exploring the childhood of Jesus and is planned for theatrical release later this year. This week, an "R" rating was given to the film for "strong/bloody violent content and brief nudity," following the release of a teaser trailer last month. Separately, Magnolia Pictures also released the HBO Original documentary, "Prime Minister," on September 30th, which chronicles the life of Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand's 40th Prime Minister. Finally, Magnolia Pictures distributed the film "40 Acres," a dystopian film set 14 years after a fungal pandemic. The last day to view a documentary about The Villages, America's largest retirement community, was May 3rd.
