Meteo France is a State Owned entity headquartered in France, founded in 1994, with approximately 1240 employees. Functioning as a public administration under the authority of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, its main mission involves observing and forecasting the evolution of the atmosphere, the snow cover, and the surface of the ocean, thereby ensuring the security of life and property through government administration.
On June 12, 2026, data from France's Agriculture ministry covering 2024 revealed that human error accounts for the majority of wildfires in France where causes are identifiable, which is approximately 59% of cases. Previously, on June 8, IMOCA skippers participating in the Vendée Arctique race, which commenced on June 7, began deploying weather and climate data-collecting buoys for Météo France near the Arctic Circle, a practice common in recent major IMOCA races. Earlier, on May 29, Oshen launched a project for Météo-France, deploying one of its signature 1-meter robotic boats, the C-Star, to autonomously sail into the Bay of Biscay. The C-Star successfully navigated 5-meter high waves to a target destination 325 km offshore, holding station for two months to deliver real-time ocean and atmospheric data directly into Météo-France’s forecasting systems. This followed a May 28 report that a heatwave intensified across Spain and France, raising power demand for cooling and threatening new temperature records, with analysis from Vaisala forecasting average temperatures to climb 6 to 9 degrees Celsius above normal in the affected regions.
