Meteo France is a State Owned entity headquartered in France, founded in 1994, with approximately 1240 employees. Functioning as a public administration under the authority of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, its main mission involves observing and forecasting the evolution of the atmosphere, the snow cover, and the surface of the ocean, thereby ensuring the security of life and property through government administration.
Météo-France issued a tender notice on April 4, 2026, for the maintenance of green spaces within its meteorological parks in the Center-East and North-East observation zones of France, with an estimated closing date of May 5, 2026. Previously, on April 1, 2026, France Weather issued a tender for the supply and corrective maintenance of ultrasonic wind sensors with heating systems for its measurement network, alongside the supply of mechanical wind sensors. This follows an announcement on November 25, 2025, that meteorological agencies in France and the UK spearheaded the launch of a new, more detailed volcanic ash forecasting service. The service aims to significantly reduce disruption to airlines from future large-scale volcanic eruptions, a critical development given that volcanic eruptions pose a significant threat to air travel, as exemplified by the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption which sent ash plumes over nine kilometers high.
