Michigan State University (MSU) is a state-owned public land-grant research university located in East Lansing, Michigan, USA. Founded in 1855 as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, it was the nation's first agricultural college and became the first land-grant college in the US following the 1862 Morrill Act and subsequent state designation in 1863. The university, which employs approximately 24,810 people, became coeducational in 1870.
