Microchip Technology, a publicly owned company headquartered in the US, was founded in 1989. With approximately 14,610 employees, the company specializes in semiconductor manufacturing. It functions as a supplier of connected and secure embedded control solutions, serving customers across the industrial, automotive, consumer, aerospace and defense, communications, and computing markets.
Microchip Technology Inc. introduced the MD-990-0011-B family of plug-in timing modules on May 1, 2026. These modules deliver high-precision synchronization for data centers and 5G networks, addressing the critical need for accurate and resilient timing amidst increasing demands from AI-driven workloads and next-generation connectivity. Earlier the same day, Microchip opened a new 15,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to expand its production capacity for high-precision timing and frequency control products. This site focuses on advanced timing solutions, including hydrogen masers, frequency generation systems, and high-performance oscillators, for critical infrastructure applications. Also on May 1, Microchip expanded its Trust Shield portfolio by introducing new post-quantum cryptography (PQC)-ready chips: the TS1800 Platform Root of Trust controller and the TS50x secure boot controller. These devices are designed to comply with cybersecurity mandates such as the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2.0 (CNSA 2.0).
