MikroTik is a privately owned company headquartered in Latvia. Founded in 1996, it employs approximately 610 individuals and its main product is Information Services. The company specializes in developing routers and wireless ISP systems, providing hardware and software for Internet connectivity around the world.
On August 7, 2026, MikroTik made a significant donation to a university, allocating funds to acquire research facilities and laboratory equipment. This aims to bolster scientific capacity and provide students with modern technologies. The company has contributed almost 7.8 million euros to RTU since 2016, with prior allocations funding an artificial intelligence data server utilized by researchers at RTU, the University of Latvia, and other scientific institutions and companies. Previously, on July 31, 2026, a session flaw in MikroTik routers came to light, which could allow a low-privilege API account to expose a router's static private key in plaintext if used as WireGuard VPN endpoints. This vulnerability led the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to demand hardening measures for affected systems, impacting thousands of ISPs, managed service providers, and enterprises.
