The company specializes in developing routers and wireless ISP systems, providing hardware and software for Internet connectivity around the world.
On October 1, 2026, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) urged MikroTik users to update RouterOS to version 7.24.5 or the latest available, citing a near maximum severity bug that allows attackers to run code as root without a password. This critical flaw impacts a significant number of MikroTik devices exposed on the internet. Previously, on September 28, CISA warned of active exploitation of MikroTik RouterOS vulnerabilities. This follows earlier warnings from Russia's telecommunications regulator, Roskomnadzor, which on September 26, instructed operators to inspect MikroTik network equipment. Roskomnadzor's Main Radio Frequency Centre (GRCHC) required operators to check devices and "take measures to eliminate potential vulnerabilities" in the Latvian company's RouterOS software, with reports indicating approximately 100,000 such routers are in use by Russian subscribers.
