Montclair State University (MSU) is a state-owned public research university founded in 1908. Located primarily in Montclair, New Jersey, with portions extending into Clifton and Little Falls, it employed approximately 5,650 people as of a recent reporting period. In fall 2018, MSU was the second-largest public university in New Jersey by student enrollment. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education designates it as an "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity" institution.
