Motion Picture Laboratories (MovieLabs) is an independent non-profit organization founded in 2006 by six major Hollywood studios: Disney, Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros. Headquartered in the US with a staff of around 20 employees, MovieLabs focuses on advancing research and development in motion picture distribution and protection. The organization works to develop new technologies and standards for the secure delivery of content to consumers, as well as to combat piracy and protect intellectual property rights. MovieLabs also collaborates with other industry organizations and stakeholders to promote the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
MovieLabs, a media and entertainment industry leader, unveiled its 2030 Showcase Program on September 12, 2024, recognizing organizations that apply emerging cloud and production technologies aligned with the MovieLabs 2030 Vision Principles. On September 13, 2024, Hammerspace, a data orchestration company, showcased a MovieLabs 2030 case study highlighting how Mathematic Studios leverages its Global Data Platform for multi-site collaborative workflows. MovieLabs CEO Richard Berger provided an update on the industry's progress in implementing the MovieLabs 2030 Vision and discussed future plans at IBC2024. Additionally, MovieLabs published two new specifications to enhance the security of professional media content distribution to consumer devices.
