Namex, a non-profit organization headquartered in Italy, was formally established in 2001 with approximately 50 employees. It functions as an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) and a neutral interconnection hub for Central and Southern Italy. The organization evolved from a non-profit initiative founded within the University of Rome in the mid-1990s, which has since grown into a critical nexus of European and Mediterranean internet architecture, routing traffic for over 280 connected networks (Autonomous System Numbers, or ASNs).
