The National Archives of Australia (NAA) is a state-owned Australian government agency established in 1961. Employing approximately 260 people, its headquarters are located in Australia. The NAA's primary function is the administration of the nation's archives; it collects, preserves, and makes accessible the records of the Commonwealth government. Previously known as the Commonwealth Archives Office and Australian Archives, the agency's core activity is managing the nation's historical government documents.
