National Frequency Agency, also known as ANFR, is a State Owned entity headquartered in France. Founded in 1997, the agency employs approximately 240 individuals and operates in the telecoms sector. It functions as a public administrative establishment tasked with the mission of ensuring the planning, management, and control of the use, including private use, of the public domain of radio frequencies, specifically those subject to article L. 41 of the Postal and Electronic Communications Code, and manages the competences of administrations and authorities that allocate radio frequencies.
ANFR authorized over 55,300 5G sites and 72,187 4G sites in France as of June 1, 2026. This figure marks an increase from the 55,000 5G and 71,982 4G sites authorized by May 1, 2026. Previously, the agency reported over 54,600 5G sites and 71,750 4G sites authorized by April 1, 2026, following the more than 54,400 5G and 71,700 4G sites authorized by March 1, 2026. Earlier, on January 28, 2026, the ANFR noted that the upcoming World Radiocommunication Conference (CMR) would consider the 51.4-52.4 GHz frequency band for use by relay stations. This examination addresses the need for additional spectrum to enable transmissions between satellite constellations and ground networks.
