The National Frequency Agency (ANFR), a French state-owned public administrative establishment founded in 1997, employs approximately 240 people. Its headquarters are located in France. ANFR's primary function is the planning, management, and oversight of radio frequency spectrum usage within the country, encompassing both public and private applications. This responsibility is derived from Article L. 41 of the Postal and Electronic Communications Code and includes the coordination of frequency allocation with relevant government bodies.
On August 1, 2025, National Frequency Agency (ANFR) authorized over 52,000 5G sites and 70,600 4G sites in France. By September 1, 2025, this increased to over 52,500 authorized 5G sites and nearly 71,000 authorized 4G sites. ANFR also received confirmation from the European Commission regarding measures taken concerning the iPhone 12's Specific Absorption Rate.
