The New York Islanders, a privately owned professional ice hockey team founded in 1972, is based in Elmont, New York. Employing approximately 490 people, the Islanders are part of the NHL's Metropolitan Division in the Eastern Conference and play their home games at UBS Arena. They are one of three NHL teams in the New York metropolitan area, and their fan base is largely concentrated on Long Island.
