Nihon Hōsō Kyōkai (NHK), also known as the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, is Japan's public broadcaster, established in 1925. Initially offering radio services, NHK expanded to television in 1953. As a state-owned entity under the Japan Consortium, it employs approximately 10,350 people and generated over $1 billion in revenue in 2022. NHK's funding comes from a television reception fee levied on households owning television sets, a system intended to ensure its independence from government and private influence.
