NTT conducted a proof-of-concept on April 3, demonstrating remote control of industrial robots over its IOWN All-Photonics Network (APN) in collaboration with electronics trading company Ryosan Ryoyo. This trial successfully controlled a robot located in Yokosuka from a server in Musashino using IOWN APN connectivity. Previously, on April 2, an executive from NTT Global Data Centers noted that AI connectivity requirements are reshaping data center design and location, as hyperscalers move towards ultra-dense dark fiber bundles. This shift is leading NTT to focus new build activity in markets with strong existing connectivity, requiring more fiber entry points and larger conduit vaults. Earlier, on March 30, NTT introduced "tsuzumi 2," an update to its proprietary large language model "tsuzumi," which the company initially launched in late 2023 with a philosophy that diverged from the "bigger is better" trend in generative AI.
