Oscilloquartz, a privately owned Swiss company founded in 1949, specializes in telecoms solutions. Employing approximately 80 people, the company designs, manufactures, and implements complete time and frequency synchronization systems for both modern packet and older network technologies. As a subsidiary of ADVA Optical Networking, Oscilloquartz reported revenues of around $25 million in 2023.
Adtran launched the OSA 5401XG SyncPlug, an SFP-based grandmaster clock providing precise synchronization for 10Gbit/s networks, on September 9, 2025. A statement from Adtran's EMEA and APAC sales general manager, Stuart Broome, noted that defense organizations are increasingly adopting autonomous long-term synchronization solutions, citing the selection of Adtran's optical cesium technology by DSTG as an example. Collaboration between companies will demonstrate how 5G terrestrial PNT and Oscilloquartz's timing technology can offer a scalable backup to GPS for critical systems.
